The uncertainty after the departure of former Autodesk CEO Carl Bass in February has ended with Andrew Anagnost named as President and CEO.
Back in February after an interview with Sarah Lacy Carl Bass abruptly resigned along with two members of the Autodesk board. Andrew Anagnost and Amar Hanspal have served since then as interim “co-CEOs” for the company. With the announcement of Anagnost as CEO also came the announcement that Amar Hanspal has resigned from Autodesk after more than 30 years with the company.
Since Anagnost oversaw the company’s move into the “subscription only” (rented software) business model this announcement gives a pretty clear indication of Autodesk’s plans moving forward. How that will go over with the customer base remains to be seen. Recently many competitors including Bentley have used the dissatisfaction with the rental only business model to convert longtime AutoCAD users to Microstation and other platforms.
Prior to his role in the subscription move Andrew led the groups responsible for Autodesk Inventor and held other roles with the company since 1997.
